Stebbins Pumping Station

Another great spot to look for winter ducks and spring migrants, the Stebbins Pumping Station is located in Vernon, South of Brattleboro. Stebbins has hosted a drake Barrow's Goldeneye the past few winters, and the wooden platform over the river offers great views. Common Goldeneyes, Hooded Mergansers, Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher and a variety of shorebirds can be found here as well.

When To Go: Winter is the best time to look for Common and Barrow's Goldeneyes. March-May offers the opportunity to see migrating ducks, songbirds and shorebirds.

How To Get There: From the center of Brattleboro, drive south on VT 142 for 7.3 miles. Turn left on Stebbins Road, and in 0.2 miles turn left on the dirt path down to the river. This dirt road is well-maintained and plowed even in the winter and most vehicles can handle it year-round.
